As we settle into 2025, the Willmar Pistol & Rifle Club looks back with pride on a busy and successful 2024! It was a year filled with exciting shooting events, significant range improvements, and a continued commitment to our community and the next generation of responsible shooters.
A Year of Dynamic Shooting Disciplines:
2024 saw enthusiastic participation and growth across all our shooting disciplines:
- USPSA: Our USPSA matches continued to draw competitive shooters from near and far, showcasing speed and accuracy in dynamic stage setups.
- Steel Shoot: The satisfying clang of steel rang out regularly as participants tested their reflexes and precision in our Steel matches.
- PRS22: We hosted precision rimfire shooting with challenging PRS22 matches demanding focus and skill.
- Varmint Shoots: Our varmint shoots provided opportunities for members to hone their long-range skills in a friendly and engaging environment.
- M1 Garand Shoots: We celebrated history and marksmanship with our popular M1 Garand shoots.
Investing in Our Facilities:
We are committed to providing a safe and well-maintained range for our members.
Maintenance:
In 2024, this commitment was evident in the numerous times our dedicated volunteers stepped up to install new mats or boards for target holders, ensuring optimal shooting conditions across our various bays. This ongoing effort is crucial for the smooth operation of all our events.
Enhancements:
2024 also saw significant improvements to our facility:
- The north shelter enclosure was completed, providing much-needed protection from the elements for our members and guests during events and practice.
- A robust RR Tie bunker was constructed for steel targets. Located at the 100-yard lane allows members to bring and set up their own steel targets for personalized practice.
- We divided the pistol bay into two distinct bays, increasing the capacity and flexibility for pistol shooting activities and training.
Cultivating the Next Generation:
We believe in fostering responsible firearm ownership and safety from a young age. In 2024, we were pleased to have hosted three successful youth hunter education classes, equipping young individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to be safe and ethical hunters. This is a vital part of our club’s mission.
Looking Back at Our 2024 Events:
Beyond our regular shooting disciplines, 2024 featured key events that brought our community together:
- 2024 Gun Show – September 14 & 15: Our annual gun show was once again a great success, attracting vendors and enthusiasts alike.
- Regular Matches: Throughout the year, we proudly hosted numerous USPSA, Steel Challenge, PRS22, M-1, and Varmint shoots, providing consistent opportunities for members to participate and compete.
